PRODUCTION IN TURKEY

In general terms, paper and board production technology includes pounding, cutting, chipping and cleaning treatment of the wood pulp obtained from raw materials such as wood, annual plant and waste paper by chemical, semi-chemical and mechanical techniques; adding filling and conditioning materials and then sheet formation, drying and cutting in an appropriate size.
Data on paper and paper varieties which are the most commonly consumed industrial product in the human life shows the leading universal criteria of the development level of a country. Paper which is the irreplaceable product of the modern world is basically in layers and consists of the cellulosic strings of the wood pulp. In the beginning, paper which was used as a writing media played an important role in the development of civilization and culture with this use.
However, writing paper constitutes only a small proportion.
Formed in 1936 in Turkey, the paper sector operated with an aim to meet the demand with national production until the 1980s. The period of 1963 - 1979 was a growth and development period for the paper sector in Turkey. The sector which developed closed to foreign competition entered into a new period with the abolishment of the customs wall between the European Union (EU) and Turkey.
Turkey produces 2,4 million tons of paper and the consumption amounts to 3,9 million tons. Due to the growth in the consumption of paper, board and corrugated cardboard, there was an increase in the need for new information and technology from abroad. In other countries, especially in the West Europe, growth in the sector almost came to a halt. Consumption of board also tends to decline. However, in Turkey, consumption of paper and paperboard is raising. Turkey is the 6th to produce corrugated cardboard in Europe. Turkey is currently one of the main corrugated cardboard producers in Europe. It is also in the 6th place with the annual consumption of 261,000 tons.
